Quick Money Making NOW! has become my baby.

There, I said it.

It wasn’t supposed to, of course. This site is the first creation I spawned during my recently-begun foray into the world of Internet Marketing.

Right from the start I told myself, “Now, this is just a test, to see if it’s possible to successfully monetize a blog. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s not going to be perfect.” Don’t get too attached, I said. Don’t put too much effort into the layout – content – quality of the site. Just throw it together, slap on some ads and build links like crazy.

I think on some level I knew it wasn’t going to happen – especially when I started “feeeling bad” for recycling other people’s PLR articles, and when SEO for the layout turned into intense, obsessive tweaking to make sure everything was displayed just so, and when a crappy, traffic-boosting post somehow morphed diabolically from a fifteen minute fling into an hour and a half long love affair.

Sigh.

The “Right Thing”

As an individual, I have a handful of beliefs to which I commit myself deeply, and upon which I base most everything I do. Among them are:

  1. Always do the right thing. (Because it’s right, and also unexpected. This includes honesty!)
  2. Give out that which you wish to receive. (The Golden Rule, basically. :) )
  3. Do whatever you want, and do it well. (This is the kicker-in-the-teeth-er right here.)

And however noble these beliefs may appear to be externally, they are secretly quite royal pains in the ass when it comes to learning how to make money on the Internet. Nearly everywhere I’ve turned since I entered this business the scamming and misleading and coercion has run rampant. Apparently there’s something to it, or at least a whole lot of people have been led to believe there is, or maybe they’re just mindlessly copying the select few who DO make a living out of doing it efficiently.

Whatever the reason for it, underhandedness in this field is predominant, and there is always an inherent temptation in the promise of ungodly riches the Dark Side holds – several times already I’ve caught myself straying from the path. Each time I’ve realized it’s nothing but a dead end, and had to backtrack and do extra work to make up for the slip. Deep down I know, the gold they offer is only the distant, flickering glimmer of an ever-elusive willow-the-wisp, and any supposed alliances are tenuous at best and never to be trusted. That’s no way to live.

And in the end they traded their tired wings
For the resignation that living brings
And exchanged loves bright and fragile glow
For the glitter and the rouge
And in the moment they were swept before the deluge.
- Jackson Browne

Finding The Way

The alternative approach, so-called “White Hat” by the tech community, is apparently equivalent to honest hard labor, and the accompanying “slow and steady wins the race” mentality.

Now, I’ve always been different from the others, and I can instictively tell when things aren’t in line with what I really want and make a decided choice to steer clear of them.

I don’t want to lie to people, or harm them, or use them to benefit myself. It just doesn’t make sense to me. I believe in what most people call “karma”, in that what I give out comes back to me. If I give cruelty and selfishness, that’s what people will bring back into my life. Who needs that shit?

Conversely, I’m also not willing to accept that (without cheating) my fortune will be the rest of my life in the making, and only with a strenuous, persistently maintained effort. I know for a fact there are different ways,  so I don’t choose to limit myself to what one person or group of people says is “the only way.” Instead, I keep in mind a clear picture of what I want: Honestly earned low-maintenance residual online income, and don’t waste time stressing over the “hows.” I’ve always been good at finding things (or they’re good at finding me, one), and I have complete trust in my ability to find this as well.

In doing this, I prefer to set the standard, letting only the positives be my guide (things like honesty, kindness and fairness) and to thus lead by example. Having chosen this road, I find myself bathed in love’s “bright and fragile glow” from the very first step. There is no harrying, elusive chase for gold, no struggle towards a better life. On this road, the journey is part of the reward.

Sunshine, Kittens & Strawberry Gumdrops

I think one of the most common pieces of advice given to new marketer’s is to “do what they love,” which is incidentally  also the one that is most frequently bashed. The argument for the one side is based largely on faith and strawberry gumdrops: “If you do what you love,  everything finds a way to work out for the best.” For the record, I do believe there’s something to this if you A) Do what you love for the sheer joy of it, and B) Have an unwavering belief that what you do will bring you the success (although not necessarily immediately or even any time soon, and maybe not even in the form you’re expecting.) On the other hand, it goes something like: “If your passion is  collecting used band aids, you might have some trouble finding an audience to market that to. Crackhead.” In this example, quite understandably. :P

In my case, Internet Marketing and learning its mysterious ways has become my passion. I’ve read in many places that blogging about making money online is overdone and the audience is piddly (although I don’t exactly agree with that,) and yet it’s turned out to be the topic of my first blog. Long ago I heard someone say, “The best way to learn something is to teach it,” and have always found this to be true for me. For one thing, it forces me to consider the things I’ve learned in much greater depth. I have to review the information and organize it in my mind, so I can present it to others in a logical and streamlined fashion. For another, since the teaching is also intended to benefit my own learning, I put my heart and soul into it and hold nothing back. There is no withholding or misleading caused by an unfounded fear that the success of others means there’s less available for me.

So, as I continue my own journey along the path towards online financial prosperity, I reiterate all new intelligence that comes my way as clearly as I can, and we all get to reap the benefits of this. I don’t have any predetermined itinerary at this time as this endeavor is largely faith-based. Despite that fact, I remain smugly self-assured (read: confident) in my inevitable success, and look forward to nothing more than being able to say:

I did it. I’ll show you how.

Follow me.

Until then, to your success & strawberry gumdrops.
