When researching a work from home opportunity I use four criteria, I have listed below. Only when I find a home business that fits ALL four criteria do I consider it further.
The first question you need to ask yourself is, How much is it going to cost me upfront? Just as if you were going to start a business off line, when you start a business online you have to expect some financial outlay. The question is can you start with little to no upfront money. When you see sites that make statements similar to “We charge you this fee to make sure you are serious about working from home”, a red flag should go up. However, if a home business opportunity fits into all 4 criteria but asks for a small membership fee, it is probably ok. These sites also need to have income flow in order to maintain there sites, membership areas, and provide tools to help you succeed. Although you should remember the majority of any money you put into your home business is should go to advertising.
2. The next thing is to ask yourself if it is a saleable product or service. You will never make any money marketing something no one needs or wants. In this economic poor state you also need to consider whether you will be better off trying to sell a product or service that is expensive to a few people or something that is much less expensive to many people.
3. A very important consideration for me is, Is it moral and legal? Are you selling something or trying to recruit people into something you would tell your children, parents, or friends about? Are the marketing practices deceitful and only legal because of a loophole?
4. Lastly, Is there support? When considering a home business look to see what type support you are given to get going and sustain your business. Are you given a plan, are there live people you can contact for help?
In order to become debt free and financially free you will need to have multiple income streams. This will take time and research but it is worth it.
