For someone just getting into CPA marketing, then congratulations on the smart decision you have! But you might find it hard to differentiate one type from another and it’s really discouraging at first.

If you look very closely, there are 3 types of offer that is very common in any CPA network – they are free-trial offers, zip-submit offers, and e-mail-submit offers.

Let’s begin with free-trial offers, because they are so popular among both advertisers and the marketers who promote them. How can it become so popular? Because free-trial offers are free most of the time for the customer, except maybe some small fee to ship the goods. Both sides win. The customer gets what he/she wants (the product) at the lowest price -almost free- and the advertiser gets a lead.

I remember I was wondering when I first heard about this: how can this really benefits me and/or the advertiser? Even though the offer is free, or nearly free, companies are often more than willing to pay generous commissions (as much as $20-$100 per lead). The reason is that many of these free trial offers are forced continuity programs – by participating in the free-trial, the corresponding customer is accepting the terms to pay for more when the product trial is up, usually via an auto-ship program.

But worry not, as the one you should really take care about is delivering the lead. Leave the follow-up process alone to the company. That means that you get a high commission on an offer that is easy to convert, and all you have to do is get the customer to the company’s landing page. Free-trial offers are popular for a reason…

Let’s move to the second popular one: zip submit offers. This one is as easy as the previous free trials – you only need to capture the prospect’s zip code. You can be sure that the company running the promotion has a way to make money from the customer on the back end, but you as the CPA marketer get paid just for the customer’s zip code. Like the free-trial, this offer converts extremely well too, despite of the low-paying – you might earn as little as 75 cents to $1 for a zip submit, but if you’re good at driving traffic to these offers, there is no doubt that you may end up in really big commissions.

The 3rd common ones would be an e-mail submit offer. We hear it over and over again that “the money is in the list”, but it really is not that easy, and that’s why companies are eager to pay a hefty load of cash to get them just the right e-mail addresses. That’s pretty much how things work at the industry: you bring visitors to companies’ landing page, they fill up their e-mail address, and that’s it. You’ll get paid. The payout, just like the zip-submit, is not that high at first sight – but you can always make up to that by driving a lot of targetted traffic.
