Adsense is by no means the only viable ad network publishers have available to them. There’s a plethora of other high quality websites out there that go beyond Adsense, offering the same, similar, or ever better services for monetizing your web traffic.
Here is a list of the various solutions for CPC Advertising for Publishers that I’ve come across thusfar. I say “dynamic” as I intend to update this list with additional networks as well as reviews of services I’ve personally tested. Contributions to this list are open and welcome!
CPC / PPC Ad Networks for Publishers
-
AdBrite
One of the most popular networks, along with Adsense and the YPN. The interface is clean, functional and easy to use. They offer highly customizable ad zones and a wider array of ad types than Adsense, including full page and inline. (In my opinion, though, the full page ads are just too dang annoying. I wouldn’t wish those on anyone.
) As of writing this, I’m currently using Adbrite in conjunction with Adsense on QMMN, and I’ve already noticed a couple things I don’t like. For one, when you create an ad zone you assign it to a category and subcategory within your site’s niche, which I did. This allows advertisers to search for and advertiser on the most contextually relevant websites possible. This is rarely the case, however; I’d say that at any given time, approximately 60 – 95% of the ads AdBrite displays are contextually irrelevant. I’ve had everything from teeth whitening, hair removal, credit card debt, weight loss. Fucking “billiard supplies” at the moment, for fuck’s sake. I’m waiting to see if they’ll able to perform irregardless, so for the moment I withhold judgement in that respect.
Another thing I’ve noticed is general unreliability of the ads they display.
I’ve had all the Adbrite ads on my website vanish for no apparent reason. Nothing was changed on my end, and the ads were still active when previewed in the browser, but I had to update the code for every single one to get them to reappear. I’ve also had one or two randomly crap out for anywhere from hours to days, then reappear on their own. This does little to inspire confidence in me about Adbrite’s services.
