The most important aspect of ANY website, blog, forum, or internet marketing endeavor is this (drum roll):
The audience.
If no one knows about your site, if no one can find your site, if no one cares about your site,
Make a MySpace page for it.
Friend a lot of people, especially with similar interests, and post useful, meaningful comments on their pages. NEVER spam though, that has the opposite effect of what you want. Also, this is by no means limited to just Myspace. Create pages on Twitter, Facebook, Technorati, and add your link to the profiles of all your existing forum and other networking accounts.
Comment on Well-Trafficked Blogs.
Find some popular blogs on the subject, and use your website name and URL in the fields provided. Again, post useful, meaningful comments on the blog posts. It’s also a good idea to answer questions other people ask in the comments, because then they’ll view you as an authority and be more interested.
Articles, articles, articles!
This is one of the most effective ways to generate long-term traffic. Writing articles and submitting them to free article directories as they allow an author bio that includes your website link at the bottom of the articles you write. Write articles that are related to the subject of your blog or website.
Just a little icing on the cake…
That’s three quick ones, but by no means is that the end of it. Ask your friends to post your link on their websites, MySpaces, blogs, Twitters, etc. for you. Offer to do link exchanges with similar websites. Offer to write a reviews of a website/person/product/service in exchange for links. There’s as many different ways to promote websites as there are website to promote. (I think.) Brainstorm some ways for yourself by keeping these two things in mind:
1) Above all, you want to expose your link to a large audience. Think social networking.
2) Always seek related subjects. This is called “targetting your audience”.
Also, don’t be afraid to give out do-follows yourself. This shows you’re not overly concerned with your ranking and makes you look like more of a dynamo. And you if hand them out freely, others will be more inclined to do the same for you. Lead by example. Once you’ve developed a steady stream of inbound traffic, you can begin to consider monetizing to get money from your blogging.
