Are you a new Affiliate or Internet marketer? Are you buried under mountains of information and feeling overwhelmed? Are you worried that you will never make any money online? Let me offer some help.

We have all been where you are now and the one common trait we all share is that we do not give up, and neither should you. The only way that you will ever be able to get your online business off of the ground is to stick with it and discipline yourself to do the most important things and not worry so much.
Here are 10 tips to succeed with your affiliate marketing business:

1. Find the right niche – Make sure that you are not being too general with your niche selection. Instead of picking a broad category find sub categories with large followings and target them. So, instead of “dog training” select instead “German short-haired pointer training”. By focusing in on a specific aspect of dog training you will reduce competition, focus your audience, and improve your relevance with prospects.

2. Select long tail keywords – When looking for keywords, pick phrases with at least three words, focusing on phrases that have low competition and high traffic volume. To determine the competition, use quotation marks around your proposed phrase in the Google search window. Look at the results. Focus on terms with less than 10,000 results. Use the free Google keyword search tool to determine searches (focus on those with over 1,000 searches).

3. Find a product to satisfy your identified hungry crowd – Once you have identified a niche and your keywords (20 to 50 keywords to start) it is time to select your product. The best place to start is Click Bank, an affiliate network that has tens of thousands of electronic products (ebooks, software, etc.) across dozens of niches. Find a product that will resolve the problem or desire of your hungry crowds.

4. Look at your top 5 competitors – Don’t re-invent the wheel. Enter your keywords, one at a time, into Google and look at the top 5 posted sites for each keyword. These are the folks that you want to replace (or at least join). This is competitive research, so treat it as such. What are these folks doing to right? What Keywords are they using (view their source code to find these keywords)? What does their sales page say? These are the current winners and will offer the best insights into joining them at the top of the search engines.

5. When using article marketing use keywords in the title and first paragraph – This is a must to succeed in article marketing. Have your keywords baked right into your headline. Make sure that you also work the keyword phrase into the first paragraph. This will help you get ranked and will get you noticed much faster.

6. Write articles between 400 and 700 words – People on the web have a limited attention span. Write in bullet points or short paragraphs. Keep the content level focused and pithy. Don’t sell in the body of the article; instead provide content for your reader. Be of value to the reader and meet their needs.

7. Make your resource box specific – Tailor the resource box to the article, avoid generic “one size fits all” resource box information.

8. You get two links in your resource box, use them – Every article must have two links to your products/services site or lens. One link should be titled as your keyword phrase and the other should show the URL in its entirety (in case your article is improperly published and the links are no longer live).

9. Use Squidoo, its FREE – Set up a Squidoo lens for your niche (use keywords to name the page). Squidoo is fast and easy to use and is respected by Google and the other search engines.

10. Stay focused and take action daily – Truly this is more important than anything else. This is YOUR business and you need to treat it with respect. Take action every day and keep your eye on your goals.
